Web 3.0 Wednesday

In these weekly sessions you will learn the basics about Web 3.0, what is being developed on it, and why, so that you can decide whether it is in your interests to learn more. 

Web 3.0 is the future of the Internet in which people operate on decentralised, quasi-anonymous platforms, rather than depend on tech giants like Google, Facebook and Twitter that own and profit from users' personal data. 

Web 3.0 offers a privacy-driven, user-owned internet for the sovereign individual. True sovereignty implies owning and being able to control who profits from one’s time and information. It's also about owning your data and finding new ways to make money with it.

At its core, the idea of Web 3.0 is a web that’s not controlled by a small number of central authorities. Whether these are governments or corporations is irrelevant, Web 3.0 (theoretically) puts user data and web content into users’ hands. It also allows for a web where users can profit directly from their data and all that money moving around the web every day.

To the average person, it does sound like voodoo. But when you press a button to switch on lights, do you understand how the electricity is made? You don't have to know how electricity works to understand the benefits. Same is true of Web 3.0. But you know to not get electrocuted. 

In Web 3.0 everyone needs to understand the fundamentals so we can protect ourselves as we navigate this space for the first time, now and into the future.
